Sino-Swiss Cooperation on Zero Emissions Building
Following the MoU between the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China (MoHURD) to strengthen cooperation in building energy efficiency and building sector emissions, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) initiated the Sino-Swiss Zero Emissions Building Project in May 2021. The project aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enable the carbon neural development of the building sector in China by sharing Swiss and Chinese know-how on sustainable and zero emission building.

Project is structured around three outcomes:
Project Outcome 3:
Capacity Building.
Capacities on emission reduction in buildings are strengthened and the Sino-Swiss joint know-how is disseminated
Project Outcome 2:
Demonstration Projects.
Substantial investments are mobilized in constructing new or retrofitting existing buildings according to zero emission standards
Project Outcome 1:
ZEB Standards.
Chinese standards on building energy efficiency and carbon emission become more ambitious
The Sino-Swiss ZEB Project demonstrates the potential of international cooperation in addressing global climate challenges. Through its three core outcomes, the project has provided practical solutions for achieving zero-emissions in China’s building sector, offering valuable lessons for sustainable building practices globally. As policies and technologies continue to evolve, China and Switzerland will deepen their collaboration in improving sustainability in the building sector, working together to create a climate-neutral future.
