Training Building of Long Shan Shu Yuan

Shaoxing, Zhejiang

The Training Building of Long Shan Shu Yuan in Shaoxing is a strong example of zero emissions building design for educational use. As part of the Sino-Swiss ZEB Project, it demonstrates how thoughtful planning and technology integration can significantly reduce carbon emissions in school environments.

The building uses air-source VRF systems for efficient heating and cooling, paired with mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. Smart LED lighting systems adjust automatically to reduce energy consumption. Notably, the building avoids domestic hot water systems, further lowering energy demand.

A key feature is the roof-mounted BIPV system, which generates 24.06 kWh/m² annually. Additional measures include improved building airtightness, high-performance wall insulation, advanced door and window curtain systems, and thermal bridge-free designs. The project incorporates recycled concrete, reducing the use of limestone, clay, and iron powder contributing to energy savings and emission reductions.
