Future City Public and Residential District, Market and Exhibition Building

Jiading, Shanghai

The Shanghai Jiading Future City project highlights two exemplary zero-emissions buildings: the Market Building and the Exhibition Building. The Market Building features a timber frame with recycled materials and a 186 kWp photovoltaic roof system powering lighting, air conditioning, and electrical vehicle charging. Passive strategies include a ventilated double roof, HVLS fans for air circulation, natural light, and shading. Kitchen waste is composted on-site, while intelligent systems manage temperature and humidity.

The Exhibition Building employs concrete with recycled aggregates and short-process steel. A rooftop PVT system provides both solar thermal and photovoltaic energy, while skylights and variable shading optimize comfort. Interior partitions reuse materials, and the flexible design supports disassembly, adaptability, and integration with nature, reinforcing long-term sustainability.
