Cold Land Building Science Research Institute – Harbin, Heilongjiang (EN)

The Harbin ZEB demonstration project retrofitted a 1990s office building into an ultra-low energy complex in China’s coldest climate zone. Through Sino-Swiss collaboration, it integrated advanced insulation, triple-glazed windows, air-source heat pumps, and rooftop PV. Despite challenges, the project achieved a 23% energy reduction and serves as a model for cold-region retrofits and zero-carbon renovation.
